Rare Philippine Serpent Eagle rescued in Morong

A rare and endangered Philippine Serpent Eagle was rescued by Eric Chino Rodriguez Pineda, a local resident of Morong, Bataan last June 15.

According to Mr. Pineda, he found the said eagle at the back of the Truth and Life Church in Sitio Maducdoc, Nagbalayong, Morong and noticed that it was grounded and appeared unable to fly and might be injured. Fearing for its safety from potential harm, Mr. Pineda took the eagle under his temporary care.

Said eagle was turned over to Jimmy Z the next day, who then promptly turned it over to the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office Bataan (PG-ENRO Bataan) for proper assessment, rehabilitation, and release to its natural habitat.

Due to dehydration and stress based on the assessment of the Provincial Veterinary Office, the rescued Philippine Serpent Eagle is not yet fit to be released and is quarantined under the care of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Bataan.

The rescue of the Philippine Serpent Eagle, which is endemic to the Philippines, highlights the importance of community vigilance in protecting local wildlife.
